A Promise of Tomorrow

In times like these,

I am hyper-aware

of my actions that ripple.

Every breath I take is political

and I think of the people whose right to breathe

is being taken every day.

I acknowledge the weight of

every morsel I eat and all the plastic I throw away.

And for all the damage I have done

I'll say sorry to the sun

And walk shamefully,

under the tree’s shade.

What can I do?

But read the news

and stare at the black, white, and sea of grey?

Understanding that my life

is defined by

the promise of another day.

A solid trust-worthy promise.

Which is a lot more than most can say.
