Wellbeing Week

Wellbeing is a state of being happy and comfortable. This feeling or state is achieved mainly when an individual participates in activities which are stress relieving and calming. Now this is relative to each one of us. But on a common ground it has been found that things such as dancing, music, painting, journaling, pottery, conversations and sporty games are very successful in maintaining a mentally healthy individual.

Indian roots have various ways of maintaining a healthy mind. The most popular one being yoga practices. Different asanas (positions) have a response to relieving stresses. ‘Shavasana’ in layman terms, sleeping is one of the best ways of calming your mind. Sleeping rejuvenates the mind. Other practices were mainly related to food. They believed food was essential for a peaceful mind. “Ahara Suddhau, Sattva Suddhih”, which translates to purity of food leads to purity of the inner self. Practices such as eating in silence or laughter, watching your intake, fasting practices etc. have had a vital role in mind and body balance.

In modern times we have evolved various other methodologies. Krea had explored these methodologies during the wellbeing week which was held from 17th to 23rd November. The week was filled with many engaging events such as dance therapy, zumba sessions, journaling and a lot more. This has been happening for three years now. It has been organised by the PSV (Peer Support Volunteer)  team. Lets see here from them what the well being week was about and its events.

Amandeep (Second year),

Motto of the wellbeing week was to spread awareness about how important it is to take breaks in between and not shy away from giving yourself avenues to reset. This has been done through various events such as the affirmation desks, gratitude wall and unfiltered conversations over coffee with professors.

Priyam (Second year),

Wellbeing week was all about drowning yourself into innumerable events which help in distressing and relieving your mind. It was for anyone and everyone who needed a moment to chill. We had various events but the most participation we got was during the drum circle. A group of people from Chennai had come and played drums in a rhythm which rejuvenates the body and mind. Along with music, dance therapy was also conducted.

Apeksha (Second year),

Main goal of wellbeing week was to spread awareness about mental health and normalise it. A lot of events were conducted over the span of one week, such as the journaling marathon mindfulness session.

It's good to see that mental health has emerged as a strong topic in India. Has happened slowly but steadily. And the best way to popularise it is through education institutions such as schools, colleges and universities.
